Conflict & Resolution

"To falter now is to make the great sacrifice of lives to no avail... Our national existence, our liberties, are at stake".

- Prime Minister Billy Hughes

Welcome to my website!

In this page, I will be talking about why this topic is perfect for YOU and why is it important to learn about it. Come on, lets get started!

So, you might be thinking: I’m only 12 years old; why should I care about something like conscription referendum?

Great question! Even though you can’t vote yet, conscription could still be a big part of your future, and it's something worth understanding for you.

As I will explain through this website, conscription simply means, forcing men to join the army to fight for our country, with options yes or no! And this is important for you to know because it can:

  • It could be part of your life later on.

    • If the law changes, you might be asked to serve in the military when you're older — after high school.

  • It affects your future choices.

    • Some people think conscription teaches discipline and teamwork. Others think it should be a personal choice. So what do YOU think?

  • You can start learning how to think for yourself.

    • Being informed helps you become a smarter, more thoughtful citizen, ready to vote when the time comes and even you might faces decisions like this, would you really think an answer could be so simple?

Hey, now let’s think about the What-ifs questions, and don’t think this through SO easily! Remember, there are always good things and bad things about each one, so what would you pick for these following questions that I came up?

What If… You Had to Wear a Uniform at 18?

Would you feel proud to serve your country, or nervous about being forced?

What If… Everyone Had to Join the Army?

Would it be fair to everyone? What if someone didn’t want to fight? What if YOU didn’t want to fight?

What If… You Wanted Peace Instead?

Others believe that helping your country should be done in through socialisation or community work.

Got you now didn’t I? Thought you would seek answers just as easily as a simple math question huh? 😂 But let’s be more serious now, what if you actually face these complex decisions? What would you choose? For the country, or for justice?

Remember, YOU are the next generation, and this decision is about this big future of those. And learning about it now means you'll be ready to understand, speak up, and maybe vote when it's your turn.

A brief summary

During 1816, where World War 1 occurred, an internal conflict - one of the most devastating and significant ones throughout Australian history, took place. Australia faced decisions that would divide the entire country. With more of the finest soldiers dying each day, Prime Minister Billy Hughes enforced a conscription referendum, where they forced men to join the war and fight behalf of Australia. Many people did not agree with this idea leading to huge conflicts, such as the separation of Australia, and conflicts between local people, politicians, lawyers, and even families. This decision sparked nationwide protests, uptight debates, and a deep divide — leaving lasting memories on Australia's identity, long after the war had ended.

A Little About me

To me, history isn’t just about dates or events, it’s about us, choices, and the struggles that shape who we are today. It helps us understand how far we’ve come, and challenges us to think about the kind of world we want to build.
